A strategy that goes to and beyond the limits of common practice. A strategy for those who are dissatisfied with the current level of knowledge about nature, people and the universe, and are therefore willing to leave their comfort zones and relentlessly look for solutions. A strategy that brings ten key projects to life.
Ten Degrees
Division ONE. Excellence in research performance
It is important to us to communicate contemporary task profiles for researchers in a transparent manner. We promote and reward academic excellence by our researchers. We are expanding our fields of research and developing new, relevant topics. We aim to attract even more outstanding aspiring and established researchers from home and abroad to the University of Graz.
TWO-dimensional. Growth trajectory in research
We aim to attract more EU research projects in order to increase our international visibility. In particular, our focus is on renowned Horizon Europe programmes such as ERC and Marie Skłodowska-Curie. Our researchers thus receive targeted support, especially during their application process and in the initial stages of their careers. For example, we aim to promote stays abroad at internally recognised research institutions for our young researchers with the help of Visiting Awards. In this way, we raise our potential in a globally competitive environment.
THREE guesses. Study panels combine know-how for successful studying
We want to support our students in successfully completing their studies. We therefore place a strong emphasis on improving the studyability of our range of programmes along with their framework conditions in order to also increase examination activity. Based on our experiences gathered throughout 120 degree programmes, we aim to establish study panels to exchange ideas, further coordinate and learn from each other. Our purpose is clear: to improve university life for our students.
Connect FOUR. Giving students agency
The needs of our students are a central concern to us. We have therefore decided to support them even more holistically throughout their entire student life cycle. We pay particular attention to both digital services and in-person, social interaction. Our app and a competency-oriented digital learning environment will help students to better plan their studies and track their study progress more easily. This empowers students and strengthens their personal responsibility.
With all FIVE senses. Tangible and effective student marketing
With 30,000 students, the University of Graz is not only the second largest but also one of the most renowned universities in Austria. We want to better utilise and further build on this initial advantage. We are therefore taking targeted measures to increase awareness of our university among potential students and thus to attract the most qualified among them. For this purpose, among other things, we are developing tools for designing successful student marketing and more accurate monitoring.
SIX-course dinner. Attractive offers for all tastes
As an institution of higher education, the University of Graz is deeply involved in research for a better tomorrow. At the same time, it is also a workplace of the future. More than 4,700 people work at the University of Graz on solutions for the world of tomorrow in a wide variety of professions. Going forward, we want to further emphasise what we have to offer and further increase our image as an attractive place to work. We are facing the competition for the best and brightest as well as motivated and committed employees head-on at all levels.
Digital SEVEN-league boots. uniYOU: simply.digitally.made
We aim to carry out workflows quickly, efficiently and easily with the help of an interface that bundles existing digitisation projects. The “uniYOU” workspace is therefore the starting point for daily work. As a personalised interface, it creates the connection between the internet and the intranet, reducing red tape and combining related processes.
After EIGHT. A living campus
The University of Graz is in the unique position of having an integrated, green campus near the city centre of Graz. Implementing a holistic concept, we create a place where employees, students, alumni and friends of the university can meet and network. When designing the campus, we want to make active daily research more tangible. We also take into account needs relating to learning, mobility and accessibility, university events, nutrition, sustainability and student initiatives.
On cloud NINE. The Graz Center of Physics
We overcome institutional boundaries, capitalise on potential by means of collaborations and highlight state-of-the-art research made in Austria on the international stage. A showcase for this vision is the Graz Center of Physics, which will bring together the Institute of Physics of TU Graz and the Department of Physics of the University of Graz in one modern building by 2030. Currently, this is one of the largest university construction projects in Austria with the aim of improving the efficient use of laboratories and equipment, increasing the appeal of Graz as a research hub, shortening commute distances for students and serving as an example of climate-friendly resource use.
Top TEN! Science and the public
We develop strategies and propose solutions for society's major challenges. As a versatile, comprehensive university, we boast a high level of expertise in a wide variety of fields. We also convey this to the outside world and emphasise the relevance of science. To this end, we want to provide further, innovative impetus to promote dialogue between researchers and the public. By means of targeted campaigns, we aim to help build trust and reduce scientific scepticism.
